Suggestions for Venues

HGS aims to play its 'day events' at venues within (approximately) 60 miles or 1 1/4 hours of York. After 29 years we have played most of the good venues in the area at least once, so we now attempt to get a mix of popular venues we have played before and some new ones.

In  recent years we have conducted regular canvassing of members' views through questionnaires and specific requests for ideas. In this way we hope to benefit from the experience that our members have of other courses in the area.

With the recent inflationary increase in visitor green fees at many of the venues in the York area (and elsewhere, to be fair) we need even more help going forward from members to put us in touch with (or even help negotiate with) courses to achieve acceptable rates for our future society golf days. We have experienced this first hand in planning the 2025 programme, with thanks going to Lance Porter, Tony Fletcher, Alistair Babbington and Nigel Cooper for their help in keeping our prices down and allowing us to continue to play the better courses available to us.
